Vancouver, BC – The Urban Development Institute (UDI) applauds the Mayor’s Task Force on Housing Affordability for its Final Report released earlier today.
UDI President and CEO, Anne McMullin, commended the Mayor for establishing housing affordability as a priority and endorses the City’s goal to accelerate planning programs that increase density in transit-oriented locations.
“The availability of affordable and mixed housing is the basis for building communities, and allows municipalities to maintain socially-economically diverse populations, with positive implications for economic growth,” said McMullin. “UDI has long advocated for improved affordability through more supply and competition as a means to make housing more affordable, and is pleased that the City supports this approach in their Report.”
UDI is also supportive of the Report’s recommendations on processing improvements and CAC certainty, as these benefit the City, community and industry, as well as improve affordability.UDI recognizes that four former UDI presidents were involved in the Task Force. The Institute looks forward to continue working with the City, as it implements these important recommendations.
