The premier industry body representing over 600 of British Columbia’s leading residential, commercial, industrial and institutional developers has welcomed in a new Chair at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday May 17th, 2012.  President and Chief Operating Officer of Concert Properties, Brian McCauley, will succeed outgoing UDI Chair and Intracorp President, Don Forsgren, at the organization’s strategic helm.

Mr McCauley has served on the Board of UDI for the past 5 years and has been involved in the urban development industry for over 20 years.  As new UDI Chair, he intends to strengthen the organization and build on the strong legacy left by his predecessors.

Mr McCauley said, “The Urban Development Institute is the voice of one of the foremost economic sectors in British Columbia.  We speak for an industry that represents about 18% of the Province’s GDP and generates over 250,000 jobs in the region each year.”

“As Chair, I intend for the organization to work more closely and effectively with all levels of government and industry stakeholders.  UDI’s vision for a strong sustainable development industry in British Columbia, parallels the needs of government to provide a policy environment supportive of housing affordability, economic growth and job creation in a somewhat unstable global economic environment.”

Mr McCauley said, “The communities that UDI members build, provide the places and spaces for British Columbians to live, work and play. The organization will continue to provide leadership to developers in BC so that the industry continues to grow in a way that is respectful of our natural environment.”

UDI will also enhance its focus on fostering the growth of the industry’s next generation of leaders.  Mr McCauley said, “Over the past 40 years, the industry and our urban environments have changed dramatically, and with many key industry figures approaching retirement, there is an industry-wide shift towards the leadership of a younger generation.  UDI expects to support these new leaders as well as new and more innovative ways of thinking about land-use and development.”

Brian McCauley is President and Chief Operating Officer of Concert Properties, a national diversified real estate development firm with operations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.  Since joining Concert in 1994, Brian has played a key role in the development of some of Concert's largest mixed-use projects and has been instrumental in the company's geographic diversification.  He now oversees the operations of Concert’s daily activities across the country.
